About Me

“First, they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win” – Mahatma Ghandi

I was born in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1969. I graduated from Woodbridge High School in Irvine, California. Afterwards, I received a degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Riverside. I then went to St. George’s University School of Medicine leading to Pediatric residency at the University of Oklahoma. I then completed my fellowship for Endocrinology at the University of California San Diego; I had the privilege to train at the National Institute of Health Specialized Center of Research for Atherosclerosis.

Business Experience

I have been involved in internet and business startups since my 20’s. I was part of a tech startup called, “Medremote”, which was eventually purchased by Nuance. Then, I was involved in the startup of Nutricode. Afterwards, I moved to Las Vegas where I started a medical practice, The Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Specialists (The PEDS). I then closed that clinic and expanded by starting: Diabetes and Obesity Clinical Specialists (The DOCS) to create a specialized center for diabetic and prediabetic patients. The DOCS is an American Diabetes Association Certified education center, a Medtronic diabetes center of excellence for insulin pump therapy, and a clinical research center. I was also involved in the startup of Twistle, the grand prize winner at Florida Hospital’s Innovation X Competition. I have seen early, middle, and end stages of businesses; I understand budgets, sacrifice, and hardship.

I have been married to my lovely wife who is a dentist, Dr. Ritu Dewan, for 21 years now. We have two children: Pranav and Ananya Dewan. Pranav is the eldest, and will be entering as a freshman into the University of Nevada Reno the BS-MD program. My daughter, Ananya, is preparing for her senior year of high school in the biomedical program at Northwest Career and Technical Academy. She is a cellist and national merit semi-finalist; she too is preparing for pre-medical studies. My father, Dr. Satyavan Dewan, has a PhD in Nutrition and was part of the team that created space food for NASA, as well as formulated Herbalife products. He is on the board of directors for a charitable hospital founded by my family in India, started and named after my grandfather, Dr. Vidya Sagar. My mother is Rajinder Kaur Dewan, a successful commercial real estate agent. My brother, Dr. Puneet Dewan, was the Medical Officer for the World Health Organization for South East Asia; more recently, he as been working with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

I enjoy catch and release dry fly fishing with barbless hooks, as well as deep sea fishing. I enjoy painting with acrylics, and own a large artwork collection from Bill Watterson, including many pre-Calvin and Hobbes work (not to mention his only known painting). I enjoy reading Charles Dickens and partaking in the art of coal barbequing.
